The Miles Applebaum Music Scholarship Fund
The Miles Applebaum Music Scholarship Fund was created to honor and remember Miles Applebaum. A student at Lagond Music School for many years, Miles was a college student at the Boyer Music School of Music and Dance at Temple University pursuing his dream of becoming an accomplished jazz guitarist when depression caused him to take his life in 2014 at the age of 21. The Applebaum family established The Miles Applebaum Music Scholarship Fund at Lagond Music School to carry on Miles' dream by helping provide disadvantaged aspiring musicians an opportunity to ignite their passion and study music at Lagond where Miles received his training. “As a teenager, Miles found a passion and haven in music at Lagond that set him on a lifetime direction, ” says Rosanne Lana, Executive Director - Lagond Music School. “He was inspired to continue his studies at Temple University's Boyer School of Music and Dance in Jazz Guitar and performance. Mental illness cut his life short, but his passion and memory can live on. Miles' story was felt throughout the county and beyond.” Donations are welcome to help support the Miles Applebaum Music Scholarship Fund at Lagond Music School. Click below to donate. About Miles Benjamin Applebaum
Miles Benjamin Applebaum touched so many people and created a great impact in the 21 years of his life. Miles had many passions - his family, his friends, his running, and his music. A loving brother to his sister and brother, devoted son and grandson to his parents and grandparents, Miles was a talented, caring, passionate, and creative person. He shared his spirit with everyone he could. A great friend and teammate, Miles was a Cross Country and Track Runner. His talent enabled him to make it to the States as part of the Byram Hills High School's Xcountry team. Miles also shared his soul though creative channels. He loved creative writing and writing poetry. He also had a great passion for music. Miles studied for many years, and then interned, at the Lagond Music School. His talent and determination earned him a scholarship at Temple University's Boyer School of Music and Dance where he studied jazz guitar. Miles brought his music to many, creating the band Radio Active Zebra and playing gigs all across Westchester County and in Pennsylvania where he attended college. Miles' studies were interrupted by an onset of PTSD and depression during his junior year of college. The depth of Miles' emotional pain and darkness proved too powerful for his gentle soul, causing him to take his life at the age of 21. While Miles may be gone, his spirit and essence and great smile live on in everyone he touched. We love you Miles! |
